Attention Technical Geeks: Potential Utility of a Loaded Treadmill Protocol for Tactical Athletes

We know you are amongst us. You're the proud, the few that like poring through technical journals reading about studies, procedures and outcomes. Here's one from the Journal of Strength Training and Conditioning that focuses on tactical athletes, treadmill training and how the two can intersect in sports science.

“Tactical athletes” is a term for military and emergency personnel whose occupational performance is highly dependent on physical abilities and thus may benefit from job-specific physical training.

Military personnel commonly wear body armor, which represents a fixed, torso-borne load that must be carried during a variety of tasks. This study looks at load carriage in general and the effects of added weight to the extremities and the torso. The study focuses on the context of metabolic efficiency and task performance, and this study was conducted through a variable-load treadmill protocol.
